What is Catholic Evangelization?
At the end of Matthew’s Gospel (Mtt 28:19) Christ commands his disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teach them to obey everything that I have commanded you.”
As disciples of Jesus in his church we share that desire for all to come To Know, Love and Serve God in this life and the next. There are three parts to Catholic evangelization. Our worship, ministries, programs and parish life promote this knowing, loving and serving.
Know Jesus
Welcome! This is the Invitation to join our faith. We witness and share in the life, teachings, miracles, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. We do this through preaching and teaching the story of Christ in everything we do. We simply want you to get to know that Jesus is Lord. We know this part of evangelization is very hands on and personal. The invitation to become a disciple is one that has to be personal.
Follow Jesus
At some moment all of us have to make a commitment to follow Christ as disciples. It is how we follow and express our love for Christ through the worship, prayers and teachings of the Church. Disciples are those who “Walk with Jesus” and disciples always need to walk together. “ . . . and he sent them out two by two.”
Share Jesus
Many of our parishioners are serving Christ through ministry to others. Recalling the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats we know how important it is to care for each other. It is how we share our faith; the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. It is the ultimate witnessing to Christ. It is the “putting on Christ” or becoming the light of the world so that all who see may give glory to the Father.
