The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a dedicated group of women who provide crocheted and knitted shawls to the ill, convalescing and grieving members of our Parish family/community. Some of our shawls have also been distributed to members of our extended family and friends who may find themselves in need of a homemade symbol of prayer and support.
Over the past 5 years (that’s when we started keeping track) we have turned in an average of 300 shawls per year for distribution. Each shawl has a sewn-on label that reads “Crafted With Prayer, Resurrection Parish, Nashua N.H.” When a shawl is given, a card with the following inscription is included: A Blessing and Prayer: May this gift, handmade for you with love, be a mantle and sign of God’s healing and presence. May it warm you when you are weary. May it surround you with ease in suffering. May it encircle you with caring when you are in pain. May it comfort you when you are alone. May it remind you of God’s abiding love. It comes with continued prayers from its maker and those of your parish family.
We strive to create something warm, comforting, useful, unique and beautiful. We want the recipient to know that the shawl was made with love. It is to remind them of God’s love each time they wrap it around them. We ask that it bring healing or joy to those in need and acts as a reminder that someone cares. It is our hope that it provides a sense of security and well-being in good times as well as difficult ones. Our wish is that the recipient is surrounded with hope, kept in joy, graced with peace and wrapped in love. We are grateful to friends and family that encourage us to continue to make these gifts that give hope, faith and love.
We have been active for 15 years and there is a strong camaraderie of faith, family, support and friendship. As we strive to support our Parish members as they cope with an illness or hardship, we also provide support to each other. Be it a boost of confidence to work through a difficult pattern, a dropped stitch, a knotted skein of yarn or a frustrating day, encouragement is in abundance. The member’s experience ranges from beginner crocheters and/or knitters to those who are extremely proficient crafters (and patient teachers). New members of all abilities are always welcome. We meet each month on the first and third Friday's at 1pm in the downstairs of the rectory.
